T.N.F. members willingly take on the commitment to:

   •    Preserve the rich traditions and heritage of the chosen profession

   •    Better ourselves constantly with continual training

   •    Remember those Brother and Sister Firefighters that have gone before us in the performance of their duties

   •    Be true to the fire service

The desire to uphold these convictions is what drives the F.O.O.L.S. and brings brother and sister firefighters together as one. As a member of this organization, we ask that you too commit to uphold these very important beliefs and that you pass them along to your department.

The True North F.O.O.L.S. is committed to bringing quality realistic hands on training events to Southwestern Ontario. Let’s be honest for a moment, good quality realistic training isn’t necessarily happening these days …this is probably why you have interest in becoming a F.O.O.L.S. member?

Good training creates safe aggressive firefighters, exactly what the tax payers expect! Fire department mission statements all start by saying "to protect life and property". The fire service exists to win battles on the fireground, it exists for THEM!

"No one in the community believes you are there for you" - Cody Trestrail

This is why the F.O.O.L.S. exist! Training is the substitute for lack of experience. Let's be honest for a second, we aren't all running heavy fire duty here the province and gaining valuable experiences at fires, and even if we were there is still no substitute for training. Training must have realistic goals, and have a solid foundation of the "basics" and sound understanding of the “When, Why and How” of the job. Drilling the "basics" continually creates muscle memory, and that muscle memory can bring calm amongst the chaos.

"The Basics Always Work" - FDTN

“We train to play; we don’t play to train. If you want your people to “get into the job,” you have to get their heads into the job. Can you honestly say this is a constant in our trade these days?” - Ric Jorge

We believe that hands on training in this province isn’t realistic enough, and drilling for function far too often doesn't take place, performing a skill once or a few times isn't mastery of skill. Training and drilling should always simulate what can be expected in our line of work. We should be great at the “basics” in honour of the rich traditions of the job and to fully support the mission. The F.O.O.L.S. is all about sharing experiences and knowledge for the betterment of our trade.

Does this sound like it aligns with your values and beliefs of the fire service?

Then we have a place for you among passionate mentors, leaders and engaged men and women of the True North F.O.O.L.S.
